The Jantung varietal originated from the Aceh region of Sumatra. In Indonesian, “Jantung” means “Heart”, as the green coffee beans from this varietal form in the shape of heart.
During the colonial period, the Dutch brought the Typica varietal to the Lake Tawar region and established plantations there. Since then, Typica varietals in Indonesia are often known as Jantung and are widely grown in Aceh region.
