Andong Sari (also Andongsari) was developed and introduced by the Indonesian Coffee and Cacao Research Institute. The varietal has been developed from a popular Catimor that was brought from Colombia to Indonesia and has been hybridized with Caturra and Hibrido de Timor (HDT).
In addition to being highly resistant to coffee leaf rust, which virtually wiped out Indonesian coffee production in the 1880s, Andong Sari also has a resistance to two major nematodes and has high yields. Andong Sari was mainly grown in the East Java region and, to a lesser degree, in the Lintong region.
