Stephen Hurst

About: Stephen established Mercanta in 1996 with the aim of supplying the growing number of Specialty Coffee roasters with the finest selection of green beans, sourced directly from growers throughout the coffee-producing world. Stephen began his career in coffee as a coffee commodity trader for J. Aron, the commodities division of Goldman Sachs and this has given him a unique perspective. He has since served as a board member for Cup of Excellence and has cupped on many juries and as a judge at the UK and Estonia barista championships. Stephen is widely regarded as a pioneer in the Specialty Coffee movement in Europe and regularly speaks at conferences and events.
