Fazenda Solum (Bahia) 2011/12
This coffee is packed in jute sacks lined with PVC Grainpro bags – an airtight storage system that preserves aroma and freshness for longer, while also allowing the coffee to breathe naturally.
Fazenda Solum is located around 930 metres above sea level on the fertile plateau around the town of Vitória da Conquista. This area, known as Planalto da Conquista, is in the south of Bahia state (some 210 miles southwest of Salvador) approaching the border with Minas Gerais.
The farm is owned and managed by Sr. Claudionor Dutro Neto, a trained agronomist who established the coffee farm in 1986. Fazenda Solum extends over a total of 143 hectares, 100 hectares of which is under coffee - yellow catuaí and red catuaí varieties. The region enjoys a temperate annual average temperature of 18ºC and 1100 mm annual rainfall, with a sandy/clay soil.
The main harvest usually runs from July until September. The ripe cherries are selectively picked by hand, pulped and then dried in the sun on patios. The beans are then stored and rested in parchment until immediately prior to export.
