Cafetalera Herbazu translates to The Coffee Business of the Hermanos Barrantes Zuñiga and this business is the small group of thirteen micro farms (average 2.5hect each) each owned by thirteen siblings

5 sons and 8 daughters are the fourth generation of coffee farmers and between them share all the various coffee crop stages (planting, pruning, picking, milling, drying, etc.)

The eldest, Don Tonio Barrantes, manages the wet mill. The other siblings look after the different stages from the plantation to the drying, milling, packing and other related activities.

The farms are located the Occidental Valley in the highlands of the Naranjo region in the small village of Lourdes. It possesses an ideal climate and soil for the production of specialty coffee.

The cherries are pulped right after they are harvested and the parchment is sun-dried at the farm’s patios.

Cafetalera Herbazu is considered the pioneers of the micro mill revolution of the Occidental Valley and Costa Rica. Consistently among the award winning Cup of Excellence farms.
