San Francisco Tecuamburro in flower
Sergio Barillas, owner of Finca San Francisco Tecuamburro in Guatemala, has just sent us some photos of the farm’s coffee trees in flower.
Sergio is very pleased with how the trees are looking - such lush, close flowering suggests a good crop in 2011 (weather and other acts of God permitting!). We have been buying coffee from Sergio since 2000 and are expecting San Francisco’s new 2010 crop to be landing in the UK in May.
The Barillas family began growing coffee at San Francisco Tecuamburro in the late 1800s, when Daniel Barillas Harrarte and his wife, Matilde Arroyo, started farming the land. The farm’s unique location in the crater of Guatemala's dormant Tecuamburro Volcano at an altitude of 1,460-1,770m provides ideal conditions for the production of high quality specialty coffee.
