Happy Christmas from Mercanta!

It’s less than week to go until the big day and the Mercanta team is feeling festive! We’d like to wish all of our customers, partners, growers, friends and supporters a very merry Christmas and all the best for 2012..

Instead of sending out Christmas cards (too much wasted paper!) we had a lot of fun dressing up our very special Mercanta Christmas Coffee Tree for a festive photoshoot in our lab! We were very careful when we were decorating our tree - a Kenyan SL28 varietal - as this year it has produced a single cherry.. Watch this space for a Mercanta UK microlot..!

This year we are putting our Christmas card fund towards a donation to three charities. We have split £3000 between three causes: St Mungo’s, a charity for homeless people in London and the south of England; Grounds for Health, which works with women in coffee growing communities to address the unacceptably high rate of cervical cancer among women in developing countries; and a charity based in El Salvador offering support to those affected by the recent floods (details tbc - we’ll post them up in due course).
