Cupping Invitational Mercanta North-America Dec 2009
Mercanta North America held its first cupping event December 2 at the Coffee Enhancement Lounge in Seattle. We were thrilled to welcome an enthusiastic and respected group of Seattle specialty roasters in the midst of the busiest of seasons. Two flights of coffee were offered featuring several new crop Brazils and the Peru El Guabo Organic followed by El Salvadoran and Guatemalan offerings.
Guatemala Finca La Perla and El Salvador Finca El Carmen were offered in press pots at the outset along with a lovely breakfast.
The Brazils that we featured were all pre-shipment samples of coffees that we will be bringing into our Auburn WA warehouse in the next few weeks. This gives roasters an early look at coffees that haven’t even arrived yet!
While to our delight all the coffees were well received, the stand outs were the Brazil BSCA Fazenda Cachoeira da Grama 100% Yellow Canario pulped natural, the BSCA Monte Alegre 100% Bourbon, the Brazil Fazenda Rodomunho and the Guatemala Finca Santa Clara Antigua dazzled. Afterwards we had a terrific lunch and had time to sit and chat.
Our thanks to Heart Roasters in Portland OR for their beautiful roasts for the cupping table and to Fonte Coffee of Seattle WA who provided the Brazil Monte Alegre 100% Bourbon for espresso brewing.
We’ll aim to hold regular cupping events and if you’d like to attend, please get in touch…!
